Rock it out!

This is a crazy post I know, but Cody H. is a compadre and a peer of mine from the YP board who also has his own blog clevery called CodyTalks. You can find it at codytalks.com. (As a side note, I'd suggest anyone into other types of lively discussions check this blog out - some serious, some ridulous, all amusing!)
Anywhooo...Cody had a post the other day that shared a favorite song/video of his. I won't spoil it, but check it out. This made me think about that glorious era of music of days gone by. My iPod is full of hair band songs (as well as hip hop, gangsta rap - I've got issues!?) that I love to rock out to in the gym or in the car or in my basement...really anywhere! Right now, my favorite song is a little blessing from Skid Row called "I Remember You". You do not want to be near me when that one breaks out...ear shattering!
So my wish is for you all to think back to your younger days or maybe just check your current music library...what are your favorite songs from back in the day that you still rock out to? Just curious!

right on jade!
prince--YES! so my best friend and i would put on the mini-records (what were those called?) and prop her mom's front door open with the big box speaker (b/c we didn't have a boombox that we could transport outside, i guess and the speaker had to stay connected to the record player so the front door was as far as it went) and dance to 'let's go crazy' in her front yard. she lived on the highway in town and we would arm pump for the semis to honk as we did the classic molly ringwald (in breakfast club) dance. classic! .

WOW?!?!?
Jade, those are great! "I like big butts!"...classic! For those that don't know, I've known Sarah and her best friend A LONG TIME and I have to admit, I didn't know about that and I'm a little embarrassed for her! But nonetheless, what a great story - along with the favorite songs, what other stories like this do people have to share!?
How about junior high or high school dances...just think about that topic for a little bit. That cracks me up!!! .

I like all music that isn't country. When I really want to get down, I put in some Do or Die. It doesn't matter what album, or what song. They are all great to me. I like them the best because they are not main stream, and they haven't changed their style over the years. .

Ok I admit I did listen to Michael Jackson when he looked like a human being. My brother even has a picture of me wearing a Beat It t-shirt that he is hanging on to for future blackmail purposes I'm sure. But if you really want to rock out you have listen to Poison, Def Leppard, Cinderella, and let's not forget about the all-time greatest party anthem...Fight for your right by the Beastie Boys! .

First concert!
These are great! Keep them coming!!! This makes me think back and I remember the first live concert I ever went to...it was right around Thanksgiving in 1993 when I went to Wichita to see Pearl Jam. (Which I believe is one of the only bands to achieve true greatness, but that is another post!) I can remember that day like it was yesterday...who went with me (Sarah was there!), what I was wearing (camoflauge pants and a themal underwear shirt - I know I'm a tool!), remember the songs and energy and even remember body surfing many, many times! What a great memory! Do you all have those?!? .

Material...Material...Material world
I have great memories from early childhood singing some mix of Madaoona songs - Material Girl, Like a Virgin, Poppa Don't Preach - Dolly Parton - Workin' Nine to Five - and Cyndi Lauper. My best friend Lill and I would dress up and sing these songs at the tops of our lungs. We would sit on these broken down riding lawn mowers in her father's car port in crazy outfits and eat Jolly Ranchers and boiled peanuts while we sang. I guess that's what hot summers in the South will do to you! .

First Concerts
Your first concert was Pearl Jam? 1993? Really? How old are you? 20? You shouldn't even be in YP. My first concert was at the glorious Kansas State Fair Grounds. I was 7 years old and I went with some friends to see the hottest act out of Australia. Men at Work? Nope. AC/DC you say? No. INXS? No, not popular yet. Olivia-Newton John? Close. I saw the one, the only... wait for it... AIR SUPPLY! That's right. The coolest band to ever wear matching sweaters for an album cover. It rocked! I think on their Behind the Music, the worst thing they ever did was leave the toilet seat up in a hotel room during a bender of Jolt Cola and Pop Rocks. Question: Are Air Supply fans Air Heads? Discuss. .
